at 7.30pm in the High Miller Institute.

Present: Alan Hunter (President), Sandy Thomson (Treasurer),

Margaret Miller (Secretary), George Price, Douglas Cooper

and Daniel Mackay

  1. Apologies:
  2. Allan Munro, Andrew Munro and Brian Miller
  3. Welcome:
  4. Alan welcomed everyone to the meeting
  5. Approval of Previous Minutes:
  6. Proposed by Sandy Thomson and seconded by George Price

  7. Matter Arising:
  8. Item 10/2. DC referred to the NBL Centenary

Dance saying that it clashed with a Cromarty BC event.

AH explained that this was not now the case, and read out a

recent letter from Ardross/Alness BC giving the dance date as

Saturday 23rd June 2007. Item 5/Fundraising AH reported that

letters from Charlie Bear have been sent out to local distilleries

and supermarkets requesting donations of goods for the

regatta fundraiser in July. To date five bottles of whisky have

been promised. May H has requested quality bric-a-brac, from

members, and help for the CBC regatta stall.

  9. Treasurers Report:
  10. ST reported a balance of £711.77. Expected expenditure: Club Insurance £296.66, hedge cutter and strimmer servicing £131.26. Materials for green (lawn sand, fertiliser, grass seed, top dressing, fine sand) £261.45.
  11. Match and Competition Committee Report:
  12. DC had not managed to attend the draw for the Black Isle Pairs, at North Kessock BC, and AH had been taking part in the SBA Club Instructors Course at Tain.
  13. Green Keepers Report:
  14. GP said that work on the green was at least three weeks ahead of last year. Although there were still two or three problem areas, he had cut the grass again, scarified the whole playing surface, and spiked and seeded any bare patches. As a result of these treatments George reported that the green is looking in very good condition for the time of year. AH stated that it was becoming increasingly unlikely that our funding for this year would be in place in time to allow delivery of the new timber and safety-wall covering, before the start of the bowling season. It was suggested that a temporary measure of partly filling the safety ditches with a layer of Pea Gravel, before inserting the dimpled foam base, might be effective. This would keep any ditched bowls clear of the greens concrete base.
  15. Clubhouse/Property Report:
  16. Work days – at the green on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd April. Work to be carried out -weeding, hedge cutting, putting out benches, painting the gable end of the clubhouse, cleaning windows, sweeping up, dusting & polishing etc. DC reported that the small hedge was in very

8 contd. poor condition. ST suggested that we consider replacing the

hedge at some time in the near future with a picket type fence.

  17. Junior Members Report:
  18. AH reported that there were twelve juniors signed up for the Vic. Hall Indoor Bowling, and an average of eight youngsters attended the Friday evening classes, with six showing some good potential. These youngsters must be further encouraged to join the outdoor club. At this point DC expressed the need for a reintroduction of a time slot for the clubs adult indoor league bowlers. AH agreed and suggested they could meet immediately after the junior session. A trial run of this group will begin in October.
  19. Correspondence:
  20. 1) The letter from the Ardross/Alness BC detailing the new date of the NBL Centenary Dance.

    2) AH had a telephone call from the Ross-shire Journal informing us of a NBL centenary article planned, and offering the opportunity to place a small forty-word advertisement for the CBC at a cost of £27.90. This was seen as a worthwhile exercise and ST agreed to submit the copy required.

  21. Any Other Business:
  22. 1) AH reported that a letter had gone out to a potential sponsor of the Cromarty Pairs Competition. ST suggested that we send a similar letter to attract a sponsor for the Ladies Competition. AH will attend to this.

    2) Various dates for forthcoming club activities were decided and ST asked if a letter could go out to members advising them of the ‘Green Opening’ and the ‘Open Day’. It could also act as a reminder that club subscriptions would be due soon. AH stated that he would do this and would include other dates - such as the workdays at the Green, and possibly the ‘Light Nights Cruise’ on the Cromarty Rose.

    a) Green Opening – Tuesday 1st May 2007 b) Club Open Day – Saturday 26th May 2007 c) Light Nights Cruise – Saturday 21st July 2007.

AH and May to produce posters and numbered tickets for the cruise. There will be a Lucky Tickets Draw. ST and Patsy to prepare a Cromarty Firth Quiz sheet that will also have a prize for the winner. We would like to have live accordion music on the boat trip. DM to provide contact details of musician to AH.

  23. Date of the Next Meeting –
  24. Wednesday 2nd May at 7.30pm in

the Hugh Miller Institute meeting room.
