Cromarty Bowling Club

Minutes of the Committee Meeting on Wednesday 7th March 2007

at 7.30pm in the Hugh Miller Institute.

Present: Alan Hunter (President), Sandy Thomson (Treasurer),

Margaret Miller (Secretary), Andrew Munro, Daniel Mackay,

Brian Miller and George Price

1 Apologies: Allan Munro, Douglas Cooper

2 Welcome

Alan Hunter welcomed everyone to the meeting and reminded the committee that, at the end of 2006, he had been asked to draw up a list of responsibilities/duties for each committee member. He had now completed that task (copies were then distributed to those present). The list is to be used as a guideline for all new and existing club officials. The sooner we can achieve this spread of responsibilities the easier life will be for those who are currently ‘multi tasking’.

3 Approval of Previous Minutes

Proposed by Sandy Thomson, seconded by Alan Hunter.

4 Matters Arising from the Minutes

Item (9) Douglas had met with Rita Portway and there were no objections to the outdoor bowling club using the indoor equipment, at the Victoria Hall, for adult and junior sessions. As a result of this ten founder members have formed a new Adult Indoor Bowling Group, who met for the first time on Friday 2nd March 2007 (2-4pm).

Through discussions with Cromarty primary school we now have eleven P6 & P7 pupils who are keen to join an early evening bowling group. A nominal junior fee will be charged to cover the hall rent. It is hoped that funding for junior equipment can be raised although we may be able to borrow some sets of junior bowls just to get started.

Item (10) NBL AGM Thursday 1st March 2007 at Ardross/Alness Clubhouse – AH and DC attended.

(10/1) Dewar Trophy Competition to take place on 30th June 2007

and Strathpeffer v ?

(10/2) NBL Centenary celebrations –

b) Purchase of new Centenary flag.

c) Centenary Fixture Cards, 30 per club f.o.c./ additional ones t.b.p.f.

.

5 Treasurer’s Report

Sandy reported a balance of £541.98p. Outdoor subscriptions will be due next month, he will remind members. There are sufficient funds available to cover the immediate servicing of the Hedge-cutter and the Strimmer.

Fundraising - The Cromarty Regatta, a stall has been booked for bric-a-brac and Charlie Bear will be in attendance.

Cromarty Rose Evening Sail – Saturday 21st July 2007, committee members all agreed that we should run this event. Some discussion followed regarding the best way to feed and entertain our sea-going passengers. Event to be given some thought before our next meeting.

6 Green Keepers Report

George reported serious flooding to the green during the November storms. Currently an infestation of worms in the ditches continues to be a concern. Lawn Sand and fertiliser will be needed for April. The big hedge needs further cutting. BM suggested that it be reduced width wise to facilitate annual cutting.

7 Clubhouse Report

The winter storms have caused water to leak through the roof, possibly through the roof/ridge tiles. Puddles had formed inside the clubhouse door and on top of the counter. Alla MacDonald has been asked to investigate. Ideally we should replace the lino on the clubhouse loo floor. The clubhouse gable wall requires painting, we have the paint.

8 Junior Members Report – Daniel Mackay was welcomed as Youth

Convenor. Nothing to report at this time.

  1. Correspondence
  2. - Nothing to discuss

10 AOB: AM mentioned ditches and the need to re-cover the safety wall, marine ply also needs to be fixed to the inside of the wall. We may need to hire an automatic nail gun. AM suggested that if we fail to have the walls recovered, before the beginning of this season, then we should check out our insurance cover against damage to players bowls.

AH reported that he still awaits the results of applications for funding to Tesco and the Foundation for Sport and the Arts.

11 Date of next meeting: Wednesday 4th April at 7.30pm in the

HM Institute meeting room.
