Cromarty Bowling Club

Committee Meeting on Wednesday 9 August, 2006

CBC Clubhouse at 7:30 p.m.

Present:

Alan Hunter - President

Allan Munro, Match Sub-Committee

Douglas Cooper, Youth Convenor

Alex Davidson, Secretary

1.Apologies: Steve Ellwood, Sandy Thomson

2 Welcome

Alan Hunter thanked everyone for attending. He congratulated the club’s league teams for having completed the season with a total of 29 points, and narrowly missing out on many more. This augurs well for the 2007 season.

3 Approval of Previous Minutes

Proposed by Allan Munro, seconded by Douglas Cooper.

4 Matters Arising from the Minutes

1) Alex expressed his thanks to Sandy Thomson for taking and

preparing the minutes of the previous meeting.

  1. The Summer Disco held on 22nd July was deemed unsuccessful with a loss of about £30. Only 10 people had turned up, but they had thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Allan Munro suggested that, in future, all club members should share the fund raising responsibilities. At the next event they will each be given five or more tickets to sell.

5 Treasurer’s Report

In Sandy’s absence, Alan Hunter reported a bank balance of £795.37 and

£68 cash in hand. However, we have uncashed issued cheques for

£251.01 leaving an actual balance of £631.36.

The club desperately requires an additional reliable source of income and Sandy has proposed, as a fund-raising project, a 50/50 Club which would entail club members setting up a direct debit to the Club of £5 per month for which they would be assigned a number. 50% of the money would go to the winner of a Monthly Draw and the remaining 50% would go to the club. The committee unanimously approved this proposal and Alex will send out an Application Form/Direct Debit to each member.

6 Match Secretary’s Report

  1. The Ross-shire Ladies Single’s Bowling Championship held in Cromarty on Saturday 29th July was a success with our own members, Susan Florence, the Winner, and, Patsy Thomson, Runner Up.
  2. The winner’s trophy ’The Championship Cup’ was presented by Jean

Sword who, with her late sister, Margaret, donated the trophy in 1981 in

memory of their father, Hugh Watson, a long time member of our club.

  3. The preparations for the Cromarty Open Two Bowl Pairs Competition to be held on Saturday 16th September, are well in hand.

Duncan McPherson has offered to fund the competition trophy on behalf of his family. A cash prize of £100 will be given for the winning pair and £60 for the runners-up and £10 for the losing semi-finalists.

Avoch and Fortrose clubs have confirmed the use of their greens for

the Competition, if required.

7Green Keepers Report

George has been busy painting the new rink number marker brackets.

Complaints have been received of dog fouling on the bowling green paths.

It was agreed that, from now on, no dogs would be allowed on club grounds

unless on a lead and personally supervised by its owner.

8Property Convenor’s Report

Alan, in Steve’s absence, reported that the weatherproofing of the

clubhouse roof and walls are now complete. Alla MacDonald has renewed

the Ridge Tiles, removed the moss, replaced damaged slates, harled the far

gable end, cleaned and painted the back wall (which now looks like new)

and repaired the gutters and down pipes.

Volunteers will be needed to paint the newly harled wall.

9 Youth Report:

The club achieved yet another of its ambitions, this week, when Shaun

Slater was selected by the SYBA to play in the Junior CountyChampionships in Coupar, Fife, on Sunday 20th August. Committee

members expressed their congratulations and acclaimed Shaun, his

ability and enthusiasm, a credit to the club.

10 AOB

  1. Reg and Dod MacLeman represented the Cromarty Bowling Club by attended the Dingwall Centenary Match and Celebratory Dinner on Saturday 5th August, in Dingwall. A very enjoyable occasion.
  2. The practice sessions now being held each Friday afternoon for new/beginner members are proving a great success.
  3. Alex presented a poster to be put on the clubhouse door - requesting that club members, coming to the Triples Competition on Sunday 13th August, do not bring their cars as the Dupar’s ‘ Tea in the Garden’ event is on the same day and parking spaces

will be in short supply. Next year Ken will be asked for a list of the event dates well in advance.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 6th September in the CBC Clubhouse at 7:30 pm.
