2Welcome

4Treasurer’s Report
Sandy reported a bank balance of £1,916.56. However, we have paid out a cheque for £250 which has not yet been cashed, so the actual club balance was £1,666.56.
He drew attention to the situation regarding non-grant income. £800 had come so far from memberships, £114 from competition fees and £96 from raffles. He suggested that the club required a non-grant income of approx. £1,500 p.a. to survive, and highlighted the need for more members and for fund-raising activities.
Sandy agreed to write to John Nightingale to secure the promised funding from the Cromarty Trust, and to reimburse the costs of those who took the juniors to Alness on 18th June.
5 Match Secretary’s Report
Brian outlined the requirements for the Club’s two open competitions – the Open Pairs on 16th September and the Ladies Day on 29th July. The Open Pairs required actions as follows:
Write to Fortrose BC and Avoch BC to secure the use of their greens and enquire if they would be willing to supply umpires Alex
Manufacture some more jack markers from plastic piping. Andrew
Order 3x jacks, mats, scoreboards and one Umpires Kit. Sandy
Order trophy plus four cups/shields for Winners and RU. Alan
Organise a raffle. Douglas
It was agreed to charge in the region of £2.50 for catering.
The Ladies Day would be 4-bowl singles and be played only at Cromarty.
6 Green keepers Report
George had spiked and used top dressing to level some of the dips in the green. The first results are encouraging but he requires some bags of sharp sand to continue this work. Alan stated that the sand had been purchased and should arrive any day now.
George and Andrew will re-measure the rinks this coming weekend.
He would like the club to buy a hand-seeder which will make a much better job of re-seeding any bare patches that appear on the playing surface. It was agreed to keep this in mind when funds become available.
Andrew raised his concerns about the condition of the ditch walls. He was assured that this would be attended to in next year’s renovation programme.
7 Property Convenor’s Report
Alan, in Steve’s absence, reported that Alla Macdonald would begin work shortly on replacing the clubhouse ridge tiles, harling the far gable wall and fixing the roof gutters and down pipes. We would also be looking for a local painter to paint the external back wall of the clubhouse.
8 Youth Report:
Alan thanked Susan, Daniel and Shaker for taking our young members to the recent youth bowling event at Alness. He was concerned, however, about reports that the behaviour of some of our youngsters had left much to be desired. He would to speak to the young members concerned.
9 Correspondence
We had received an invitation to attend the Dingwall BC’s centenary event on 5th August (bowls match and dinner). It was agreed to ask Reg and Dod if they wished to attend as representatives of the Club.
10 AOB
Summer Dance: May was thanked for producing the posters and tickets. It was agreed that the glamorous granny would be presented with flowers and a bottle of wine. Donations are required for the raffle. Members with email addresses to be contacted re. the dance.
Midgeater: Alla will be making two concrete bases where the machine can be sited and secured by padlock and chain.
