2 Welcome

Alan Hunter thanked everyone for attending. He welcomed Andrew Munro as the newest committee member. He congratulated the club teams for having won all three rinks in the previous night’s match with Strathpeffer. He also spoke of the sudden illness and hospitalisation of long-time club member Reg Macleman, and hoped that the news of our six points win would help speed Reg’s recovery.

3 Approval of Previous Minutes

Approved by Sandy Thomson; Seconded by Brian Cameron.

4 Matters Arising

Re Item 9/3: Alan thanked all those who helped in the preparations for the club’s first home league match of the season. The greenkeeper for the superb appearance of the green, the three club members for strimming and raking the surrounding bankings, the four ladies who

did us proud with the after match teas and those who donated the raffle prizes.

5 Treasurer’s Report

Sandy reported that we have a bank balance of £7,156.20. However, several large cheques had been paid out recently and the actual club balance was £2,046.22. Another £693.50 had just been spent on training equipment for the junior members.

The Club had received a cheque for War Bond interest of £1.75. It would cost more than it is worth to cash the bond in.

We have to date a total of 34 fully paid up members. Alan stated that at least another seven or eight adults were promising to join this season.

6 Match Secretary’s Report

Brian reported that his sub-committee had decided that the fee for club competitions per player per competition would go up to £1.50.

Notices have been drawn up, and will go out to all clubs, advertising our ‘Ladies Day’ and ‘Open Pairs’ competitions. The prizes agreed upon for the ‘Open Pairs’ was - £100 to the winning pair, £60 to the Runners-up and £10 to each pair of loosing semi finalists. Alex to get addresses for all club secretaries and send out the notices with a short note asking them to advise us of their own club ‘Open’ competitions.

Alan suggested that we appoint a definite Junior’s practice time. It was agreed they would have the green on Thursday nights 6.30 to 7.30pm and Sundays 2 to 4pm.

In Alan’s absence next week transport would need to be arranged for Juniors taking part in the SYBA Championships on Sunday 18th June, in Alness starting at 12noon.

We also need to look after our new members better, inviting them along for a friendly game with some tuition and encouraging them to arrange morning or afternoon matches with other available members.

7Green keepers Report

George asked for some Sharp Sand, in order to start remedial work on the depressions in the playing surface of the green. 5 bags will be ordered to start with. Some fertiliser will also be required for next month.

8Property Convenor’s Report

Alan, in Steve’s absence, reported that an inspection had been made of the clubhouse roof timbers and the rafters were sound with no signs of dampness or wood rot. However it was recommended that the ridge tiles be replaced and the roof gutters and down pipes treated as a priority, along with harling the far gable and painting the external timbers on the back wall of the clubhouse. Quotes would be asked for.

The coping stones on the roadside stone wall require securing. Steve and Sandy have volunteered to do this work.

9 Youth Report:

Four junior members had attended a SYBA Coaching and Assessment event in Alness last month - Daniel Mackay, Sean Slater, Gavin Mackay and Cameron Macdonald. They all made a good impression. As a result of this six juniors have been invited to play in the SYBA Championships, again in Alness, on the 18th June. The six are :- Gavin MacKay, Shaun Slater, Liam Alexander, Jerome Allison, Mark Symonds and either Alice Lynch-Black or Callum MacIver.

Susan Florence and Daniel Mackay will sit the Bowling Coaches Course/Exam in August and take on the training of those who are sixteen and under

10 AOB

  1. The Club ‘Open Day’ was declared a success in spite of the poor weather. Over twenty people attended, mostly members, and it was good practice in catering for the league matches to come. Everyone played bowls, even in the rain, and the crack was good. One new adult member and two juniors were signed.
  2. Brian asked if May Hunter would produce the posters and tickets for the upcoming club dance on Saturday 22nd July. The music will be a 60/70’s Disco with a ‘Glamorous Granny Competition’. B.Y.O.B.
  3. The price would be £6 and only those over 16 would be admitted. Donations of raffle prizes will be required. Alan confirmed that the posters and tickets would be produced after he and May returned home on Monday 19th June. The tickets will go on sale in Allan’s shop.

  4. Andrew was commissioned to buy a catering sized electric kettle, a new teapot, and a couple of juice jugs for the Club kitchen.

There being no other items to discuss, everyone was thanked for their input and the meeting was closed.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 12th July in the CBC Clubhouse at 7:30 pm.
